Artist StatementThe name of my piece is Ace, Ace is a doberman who has a genetic defect that causes his legs to be shorter than usual, making his head and body look longer than usual, well that’s how it looks to me. The whole purpose of this was to make it look like a dog, and I guess it does look like one, just a deformed one. What I used to create this was polymer clay and I just had to put it together, heat it, then paint. There wasn’t a inspiration necessarily behind the piece but I did want to give it more of a playful look, which I guess it does have. My whole goal was to make a collection of dogs but by the time I was almost finished with one I didn’t have enough time to get to any others so what I did was I added some background items to make it look better. I sort of feel good about the piece but I think it could have turned out better because the final had a lot of jagged edges and a big rip in the neck.
